Lucky 13 :Thai Short Film and Video Festival

The number 13 possibly means “lucky” or “unlucky” for some particular culture. But organizing the longest-run Thai Short Film and Video Festival for 13 years might signify something beyond good fortune. This year the festival, organized by Thai Film Foundation and supported by Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, is still condensed with a variety of short films within 10 days of festival period.

For the record, this year the festival has got the highest entries.  More than 700 short films, both local and international, enter the festival, with the mixture of various genres; fiction, documentary, animation and experimental works. The selected finalists will be shown throughout the festival.

Not only the competition section, but the festival also provides the special programs, such as the exclusively Best Shorts from Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival in France, which is the biggest short film festival in the world, S-Express programs which are collection of Southeast Asian, Chinese and Taiwanese shorts selected by local curators in each county, and Queer Shorts program, which in this year focuses on Queer Ralationship. There will also be a compilation of special Thai shorts under the “Siam and A Century” program which will portray the anxiousness about the future through the eyes of the young and talented filmmakers.

The festival will be held from 13th – 23rd August at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (except Monday). The admission is free of charge. Please be noted English subtitle is available only for some films.  (The full schedule is in the attached file.)
